Blog 5: Shots fired because of female education.

Maybe this is the last time we will meet and I can ask you how are you? So hello, I hope you are feeling very well, now and always <3.

In this fifth and last blog I chose to talk about one of the people that I admire. I will tell you about a woman who when she was thirteen years old wrote a blog under the pseudonym Gul Makai for the BBC in which she narrated her life under the regime of the Tehrik e Taliban Pakistan. The Taliban banned education for girls; they had beheaded 13 girls, destroyed more than 5 schools and planted bombs as well.

When the military ended the Taliban tyranny in Swat, one woman used her fame to promote the right to education, she is Malala Yousafzai. On October 9, 2012, she was attacked by a Taliban gunman as she was returning home on a school bus (she was only 15 years old!) in Mingora, Pakistan. The attacker shot her in the head and neck in an assassination attempt, just because she supported education for girls. Did she die? she managed to survive and for her struggle, she won the Nobel Peace Prize.

Sometimes I ask myself, what would have happened if I was born in the same place as she was, or what would happen if it happened here in Chile? It probably won't happen, but what if it had happened? Her courage is admirable, even after almost dying and receiving threats, she continues to fight.

If Malala was able to risk her life for education for girls, I wonder what I am doing for education in general. I think about it a lot.... She is an example.

thank you for accompanying this peasant woman. May we continue to read each other on other occasions.

See you soon! :)

Blog 1: My autobiography

¡Hi! I hope that those are reading are very well :) My name is Bárbara and my surname is Figueroa. I have 21 years old. Today I live in Santiago from Chile, but I was born, on October 5th, in the capital of longaniza: Chillán. I come to Santiago because of my studies. The walk start in my hometown. I had the elementary and high school there, at Coyam School. In those times my favourite subjects were physical Education and the science chemistry. Getting into the university was really difficult, because I did not want to enter it but here we are <3.  I think it was a good decision in the end, I can't regret it. I have met wonderful people here. My family is made up of my two sisters: my little sister Emilia and Amanda my older sister. My father José and my mother María. My dogs Dino and Fox. They are in my heart and my mind every day while I am here, in Santiago. My hobbies are many. Some examples: see sunsets and learning to play instruments. One of the sweetest instruments ...

Blog 3: My favorite piece of technology :)

Hello again! I hope you are well.   This week technology is the protagonist. A big part of people choose the phone as their favorite piece of technology and I am not far behind. It is my favorite because thanks to the phone I can contact friends and family, that makes me very happy. For example, my grandmother and grandfather have a phone just to call, so having any other technology I wouldn't be able to hear them and know how they are doing. I use it for several things: to communicate, to listen to music and sync it with my speaker (I don't usually use headphones), to take pictures, to set my alarms - which are very important - and to sleep. This object affects in a good way in my life because it helps me to get charged with love for the contact with my loved ones and, beyond everything, I use it for the just and necessary. Would you recommend to use it? Yes, I think it's very useful for certain things, you just have to be careful not to procrastinate because of it. Still,...

Blog 2: Why did you choose this career?

Second blog and here we meet again. How are you? :) It's interesting to talk about the career we chose because it involves so many experiences... I find it great. Here we go: My mom remembers that when I was little, I always played with four situations, operating on whichever stuffed animal I had, making invisible cakes, explaining something to an "audience," and building things with different materials. It's curious how this related so much to the future because when it came time to choose a university career, I considered medicine, teaching, and construction engineering. I could have studied the first option, but my sister, who is studying nursing, told me more or less what the working environment was like in clinics and hospitals, and I asked myself, "Do you want to spend your life in such an environment?". For that reason, I chose teaching. Teaching with love is an incredible gift. My university experience has been very interesting and a constant learnin...
